Key Responsibilities
Perform z/OS system programming activities including configuration, maintenance, and operational support. Handle installation, maintenance, and upgrades of z/OS components using standard processes (e.g., SMP/E where applicable). Support PTF, fix, and patch management, and ensure proper documentation and change records. Assist with IPL planning/execution support, system initialization parameters, and configuration updates under guidance of senior staff. Manage/maintain common mainframe runtime components and services: JES2/JES3 basics, system libraries, PROCLIB, PARMLIB management (as assigned) TSO/ISPF environment support z/OS UNIX System Services (USS) basic administration/troubleshooting (as needed) Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to system-level issues, working with infrastructure and application teams. Implement and follow change management processes (ITIL-aligned where relevant). Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure deliverables are met and communication is clear. Produce and maintain technical documentation: runbooks, configuration notes, implementation steps, and handover materials.
Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science/IT (preferred) or equivalent professional experience. Certifications are a plus (IBM / z/OS related),
Role Summary
As a z/OS System Programmer (Intermediate), you will be responsible for day-to-day system programming activities on z/OS, ensuring stability, availability, and continuous improvement of the mainframe environment. You will work closely with DXC stakeholders and align with CET working hours for collaboration.
Requirement
3–6 years (flexible) hands-on experience in z/OS system programming / mainframe infrastructure. Working knowledge of: z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, dataset & catalog concepts, batch/job processing fundamentals Basic understanding of SMP/E and software maintenance lifecycle System logs, dumps, and common diagnostic approaches Experience supporting system changes in controlled environments (dev/test/prod). Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work with incomplete requirements (scope evolving). English communication: able to explain technical topics clearly in calls/chat/email.
